W A N T E D for September 2017
Great banding is a night out in a local curry house with plenty of drinking, laughing and gossiping! What Coventry Festival Band need is a like minded MD to complete our line up.
We are a recently registered band and have competed in a few local contests. The band have upcoming engagements, would like to do more concerts, so are looking for someone to get us “performance ready” and to have the enthusiasm and inspiration to take us to new musical heights both in the band room and curry house.
If you are interested you can reply on our website www.coventryfestivalband.co.uk, leave a message on facebook or phone Liz on 02476 713763. Our rehearsals are 7.30 – 9.30pm Tuesday and Friday at Cheylesmore Community Centre Coventry.
The band entered the Regionals as a registered 4th Section band – the first real contest for a very long time. We went to Nicholas Chamberlaine College on Sunday March 12th and played St, Andrew’s Variations by Alan Fernie. The band came 19th out of 21 but despite the result we had many very positive comments from members of the audience and 4barsrest.
We were only able to enter the contest with help from players from other non-contesting bands who had agreed to be registered with us. Without them we could not have done it! So many grateful thanks go those who played with us on the day.
We want to go to the Regionals in 2018 with the aim of improving our position in the tables but we can only achieve this if we can recruit our own players who can be committed to Coventry Festival Band. We need a first baritone and a principal trombone player that can lead the trombone section.
Any interested brass player will be very welcome – just use the contact email to let us know and then come down to the Community Centre for a rehearsal.
Everyone welcome – the more the merrier!!
We went to the contest as a registered band for the first time for many of us. We played 4 Cities Symphony the BEST we have ever played it and we came off the stage knowing that we had done our very best. The result was disappointing coming 10th out of 10 but we played against bands who were very experienced in contesting and who knew what was expected. To me 10 out of ten deserves a gold star and we are all very proud of what we achieved today. It is thanks to Alan Gifford that the band has progressed so far and this is the start of an exciting journey and partnership between us all.
If there are ANY players, especially euphonium, baritone, and a couple of Bb basses, who would like to help us on our way, then please contact Liz Cowley, Alan Gifford or just come down to Cheylesmore Community Centre on a Tuesday or Friday night at 7.30pm
Coventry Festival Band are looking for brass players who need a calming hobby. We especially need Front row cornet, Principal Euphonium, 1st Baritone, 2nd Trombone, Eb and Bb basses – but any player is very welcome. The band has spare instruments if you don’t have your own. Come to us and calm down, we are a non-contesting band! Enquiries to Liz Cowley on 02476 713763.
Everyone is very welcome to come to our FREE concert. It will be AM-AZ-ING!!!
We welcome back Alan Gifford as our Musical Director.
We look forward to continued success under your baton!
Following the departure of Chris Banks, the band are looking for a new MD to take up the baton from September 2015.
We are a non-registered and non contesting band. Many of our players have come back to banding, really enjoy playing, but are not in a position to commit themselves to the extra rehearsals necessary for good contest results.
The band have come a long way over the last 12 months and we are looking for someone to take us even further in terms of musicality and a challenging repertoire. Banding might be our hobby but we take it seriously and look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in taking us forward.
Please email Liz Cowley on email@example.com
Sad news for the band – Chris Banks is leaving us to take up the baton at Syston Brass Band. He has also been offered another football position and needs more time to be with his family.
We will all miss him but thank him for the time and effort given to us during the last 12 months. We also thank Debbie Banks for all her help and versatility in the different band seats.
Good luck to you both and thanks for everything!
